About Okanagan Heritage Museum
The main gallery space at 470 Queensway tracks the natural and human timeline of the valley. Displays begin with the region's geological formation, detailing how glaciers carved out the lakes and mountains visible today.
A significant portion of the Okanagan Heritage Museum focuses on the Syilx people. The layout includes a replica winter home, illustrating traditional living methods before European contact. Surrounding exhibits explain seasonal food gathering, tool making, and the ongoing practices of the First Nations community.
Later sections document the arrival of fur traders, missionaries, and orchardists. Historical items from early agricultural operations show how the fruit industry shaped the local economy. The building sits within the Cultural District, placing it within walking distance of the downtown waterfront.
