Quails’ Gate’s roots go back to 1908, when Richard Stewart Sr., a horticulturist from Ireland, settled in the valley and built one of its most successful nurseries. Six decades later his son Dick switched to grapes, planting the first vines in 1961. With Dick’s eldest son Ben and his wife Ruth, Quails’ Gate Winery was founded in 1989. Today the Stewart family farms 160 acres of vineyards, with some of the most mature vinifera plantings in Canada, and has helped shape the Okanagan into a true culinary destination. The winery is built on three pillars: consistently high-quality wines, an exceptional visitor experience and excellent service. Come for a tasting with panoramic views of the vineyards and Okanagan Lake, walk the estate with a glass in hand, then stay for lunch at Old Vines Restaurant, where every menu is built around the wines.
